Recreation and Things To Do in the Evergreen
Area
Evergreen Recreation Centers
Within the Evergreen Park and Recreation District are
three centers: The Lake House at Evergreen Lake, Wulf Recreation Center,
and Buchanan Park Recreation Center which includes the recreation center as well
as the playing fields and playground. More information may be found at

The jewel of the community is located approximately 7 miles south of I-70 on
Evergreen Parkway. Summer activities include boating (rentals available) and
outdoor concerts. Ice skating season is from mid December to mid March weather
permitting. The lake is stocked with trout for year round fishing. A 1.5 mile
path circles the lake. Below the dam is a high altitude garden with several
sculptures. The north west portion of the lake features bridges and board walks
through a wildlife wet lands. Picnic tables with BBQ posts and grassy play areas
are located on the north west side by the parking lot. The beautiful log
"Lakehouse" located on the west end of the lake is open to the public and
available to rent for special events. To reach the lake house go west on Upper
Bear Creek Road less than 1 mile, the entrance is the first left over the

Parks
Denver Mountain Parks were purchased in the early 1900's by the city and
county of Denver. Several of them are located in the Evergreen area and are
primarily used for picnicking for large or small groups. For more

- Bison & Elk herd on both sides of I-70 at the Genesee exit (#252)
- Corwina Park, located about 3 miles south of Evergreen on Hwy 74
- Dedisse Park, north of Evergreen Lake on Evergreen Parkway
- Dillon Park, in south Evergreen on Brook Forest Road
- Fillius Park in north Evergreen at Evergreen Parkway and Bergen Parkway
- O'Fallon Park, 2 miles south of Evergreen on Hwy 74 along Bear Creek

Morrison.
Jefferson County Open Space Parks are areas of land set aside in Jefferson
County for outdoor, day time recreation, including picnicking, hiking, biking,
horseback riding, cross-country skiing and snow shoeing. The following are
several of the parks in the Evergreen area:
- Alderfer/Three Sisters near downtown Evergreen, on Buffalo Park Road
- Elk Meadow located 5 miles south of I-70 on Evergreen Parkway
- Meyer Ranch on Hwy 285 in Aspen Park/Conifer
- Lair o' the Bear, along Bear Creek, about 4 miles south of Evergreen on Hwy
74

Evergreen Golf Public Course
Evergreen Golf Course is located on the shores of Evergreen Lake, just west
of downtown Evergreen, Colorado (elev. 7100 ft.). Wrapped
around a mountain and cut through the ponderosa pines, Evergreen
offers 18 challenging holes and spectacular views from every
tee. Average golfers will find that the side hill lies,
wooded areas and out-of-bounds offer more challenges than
the yardage implies and advanced players will find opportunities
to create shots and discover hole designs that entice risk
taking, but demand solid execution. Owned by Denver County, you will find a round at Evergreen,
not only inspiring, but affordable, and able to accommodate
a variety of golfing abilities. We are confident that Evergreen
Golf Course will provide the perfect setting and serenity
for a memorable day! Golf season is March 15th through November

Shopping
The Evergreen area provides a diverse array of shopping. Unique shopping
centers abound throughout the community, including historic downtown Evergreen,
with antiques, galleries, clothing, souvenirs, and specialty shops.

Artists Association sponsors many exhibits throughout the year. The largest is

- Experience
an outdoor exhibit of 42 sculptures made of bronze, steel, stone, marble and
more! Sculpture pieces change annually each June. Brochures showing where the
sculpture walk pieces are located can be found at The Evergreen Chamber of
Commerce , local merchant’s stores or logon to

brochure is like a treasure map and allows visitors and residents alike to
discover the wonderful sculptures, art galleries, restaurants, gift shops,
recreation areas and businesses along the way from Bergen Park to downtown
Evergreen.
Scenic Drives
Lariat Loop
This 40-mile drive encompasses 36 sites and parks depicting the geology,
culture, history and paleontology of the foothills west of Denver.

Upper Bear Creek Loop
Start at Evergreen Lake, going west on Upper Bear Creek Rd. for 4.5 miles,
turn right on Witter Gulch Rd., continue for about 5 miles. The last mile or so
is dirt. At the dead end turn right on Hwy 103 for 6 miles to return to
Evergreen Parkway. Less than one hour. Nice views of Mount Evans, and mountain
estates along Upper Bear Creek.
Echo Lake / Mount Evans
Take Evergreen Parkway to Squaw Pass Road, turn west. Follow Squaw Pass Road
(Hwy 103) for about 18 miles to Echo Lake. At Echo Lake turn left to go to Mount
Evans. This road is open Memorial Day – Labor Day and there is a fee. From the
lake to the top (14,130 ft. above sea level) is 18 miles each way. The road is
paved and narrow with steep drop offs. The scenery is spectacular accompanied by
a variety of wildlife. When you return to Echo Lake Lodge turn west and continue
to Idaho Springs. At Idaho Springs get on I-70-east to the El Rancho/Evergreen
exit. This takes about 3 hours and is spectacular in the fall when the aspens
change color. Many magnificent views of snow capped mountain ranges.
Downtown Evergreen to Morrison via Bear Creek Canyon
This easy drive follows Bear Creak through a spectacular granite canyon
through the quaint little towns of Kittredge, Idledale and Morrison. For a
circle trip, turn south in Kittredge on Myers Gulch/Parmalee Gulch Road. Follow
6 miles to Hwy 285-southwest. Continue on Hwy 285 for two miles, turn right on
North Turkey Creek Road, for 6 miles. This will dead end on Hwy. 73. Turn right
for 3.5 miles returning you to downtown Evergreen. This will take about one
hour. A beautiful drive through canyons of granite walls and mountain foliage.
