2019 Women in Business Hall of Fame Nominee Info & Quotes

Rita Felde
Felde CPA Group
*2019 Hall of Fame Inductee*

I am proud to have built a successful CPA practice that has gained the confidence of my clients and my employees. I sold the practice in 2017 and expect the new owner to carry on my legacy. I have a three year exit plan to assist in the transition.

I am also proud to have volunteered in the community for over 30 years for multiple organizations. I have served on the Board of Directors for the Evergreen Chamber, Team Evergreen, Blue Spruce Kiwanis, Center for the Arts Evergreen, Leadership Evergreen, College Invest and many more. I am currently working with CAE to create a five year financial plan as the organization grows to add a second building.

If you’re just starting out in business, first and foremost, you need a plan, but if your plan seems to be leading you in the wrong direction it is okay to change course. Pay attention to the details, delegate but expect to wear many hats, and be fair to everyone, including yourself. Most of all have fun, be happy, and find joy.

Rebecca Kirschner
Inspired Fitness

I have owned and operated Inspired Fitness for thirteen years. It has always been our mission to support our local community through donations, support and volunteering our time. We have partnered with a variety of organizations to make life in our area better.

I have served on the Board of Directors for the Bergen’s PTA, Rocky Mountain Academy PTA, the Philanthropic Education Organization (PEO), Habitat for Humanity (in Salt Lake and Denver), ARC and the United Way.

Inspired Fitness partners with Evergreen High School by sponsoring ladies Lacrosse, Basketball and Volleyball and even coached the EHS cheerleaders for one season. We have also donated regularly to the EHS football team the EHS boys golf team and assisted in funding the new box at the EHS stadium. We most recently had fundraisers for Seeds of Hope and Mountain Backpacks raising hundreds of dollars in donations.

If you have a small business in Evergreen, you should be expected to be a leader, supporting other small businesses and nonprofits. Give more than you take, and the community will respond in kind.

Kay D'Evelyn La Montagne
Evergreen Design Center
*2019 Hall of Fame Inductee*

Kay’s professional career has included starting two private high schools in California, teaching at both Evergreen Middle and Evergreen High School, writing and giving seminars for the US West Education Foundation focusing on helping parents better support their children in school. She has owned Mountain Home and The Evergreen Design Center for 22 years. (Mt Home was sold to Alexa Cowley Feb. 2019)

Kay has served on several Nonprofit Boards which include the Evergreen Rotary Foundation, Montessori School of Evergreen, D’Evelyn Education Foundation and Governing Board and her Church Board.

Among Kay’s many volunteer accomplishments the most beloved is the Initiation & Implementation of the Rotary Outdoor Music Park at the Stagecoach Playground.

I have always been impressed with the number of folks who are quietly contributing to this community without a lot of fanfare. I love the heart of Evergreen and recognize what a gift it is to live here and be actively involved in this community.

Megan Mitchell
Cactus Jack’s Saloon & Grill

My husband and I have owned Cactus Jack’s Saloon & Grill since 2001 and the property in which it resides since 2017. We have always used an approach of reduce, reuse and recycle, and our business has received statewide recognition for our sustainable
efforts throughout many sectors.

I don’t really sit on “boards” but I do volunteer quite a bit. I am a founding Board member of both EAS+Y and the Green Scouts, I participate on the CDPHE (Colorado Department of Health and Environment), Assessment and Planning Committee, CASA in Jeffco/Gilpin County, Ride for Life-Suicide Prevention Event Coordinator. I am a Master Composter for the Denver Urban Gardens and am a CDPHE, Environmental Leadership Program, Gold Member.

My employees have inspired me to get more involved in the community. Through my own sobriety and building our business to a point of success I have begun to embrace some answers. I see my employees struggle with anxiety and overindulgence to deal with stress and they have taught me a lot. I have learned that if we all work together big changes can happen.

Vicki Pinder
VP Financial Options

I have been providing Financial Services in Evergreen for 22 years, and member of the Chamber for as long. I particularly enjoy working with women and families in life transitions as well as planning for the unexpected.

I also offer a unique approach of patience and humor to work through the maze of Medicare confusion. Through my business I try to connect people and resources, getting people involved, helping build a strong interactive community.

Over the last 20 years I have served in Evergreen on the EACC Board, WEB -Women in Evergreen Businesses, Leadership Evergreen and Evergreen Newcomers and Neighbors. I have a passion for volunteering and have a difficult time saying no.

Being raised by a strong and full-of-life mother, I was encouraged to make a difference in whatever I did. My advice - volunteer when and where you can and step up to support growth and challenges. Be the agent of change.

Gail Sharp
Tallgrass Aveda Spa & Salon
*2019 Hall of Fame Inductee*

As founder and owner of Tallgrass Aveda Spa and Salon, success to me means sharing my passion for a balanced, caring lifestyle. I am proud of the fact that I have built a successful business in a town where I didn’t know anyone, in an industry where I had no experience. I am committed to providing a source of income for 65 talented team members while demonstrating to them the value and joy in giving back.

During my career I have partnered with many organizations to make Evergreen a better place. I have served on the board of the Evergreen Chamber, Evergreen Animal Protective League, Sculpture Evergreen and Mount Evans Home Health and Hospice. Each fall my staff and I organize and execute the soldier box project that sends holiday boxes to soldiers across the world.

To anyone starting out in business I would say, stay strong, surround yourself with great business and
personal partners remain open to other’s ideas and focus on win/win solutions.
